About Studio
Lamp
Moodoo lamps carry a natural, organic energy and strength and are amongst products with eco-design attributes. They create a unique mood of light and shadow, along with their tempting attraction to inviting relaxation. They love the touch of light.
Why paper?
Paper, as a natural material, in essence has been our companion for thousands years and throughout our lives. It is a man-processed material, which during its existence has undergone long technological developments, but its basic features remain the same until Today. It has a gift of soul, it loves human touch as well as a touch of light, it is easy to work with it, it is malleable when it should be and it is possible to be cut, torn, bent, folded and printed on with an appropriate motif. Just a small suitably chosen indent and we have a beam, rib – the paper loses its flexibility, slight cut with a knife and we have loss of internal tension. If we combine everything together, it becomes a well defined three dimensional structure.
Material
Moodoo Nano Technology - laminated, highly resistant, waterproof, anti-static paper is a result of cooperation between MooDoo studio and progressive paper mill NanoGraph, which is a sub company of security paper mill Neograph. The mill focuses on the development and production of nano-paper. The material, in addition to its technological value has outstanding aesthetic levels and through translucence reminding as it were a network of biological neurons. Paper for candle lamps, has a special fireproof modification.
Something from designer Tomas Paul
Our lamps are not a purposeless search of aesthetic forms of lighting in the ordinary sense of designing a static work of art or industrial product. This is why we don’t want to name them just lights, but prefer to call them as lighting objects. The truth is that all three-dimensional objects are in terms of our perception shaped by light, however, the light plays a secondary role, it is something obvious. In our case, it is a conscious effort to work with "light" not only as a physical entity, but also as an expected carrier of energy, as a philosophical entity symbolizing the beginning of life, knowledge. The final shape of the lamp is a result of the play of light and shadows, permeability of the material and its ability to transmit the light. It is the result of intuitive creation, the effect of some creative ecstasy, though often unconscious and automated processes based on drilled long-term work with the material. Touching the material causes a feedback of unconscious processes and the result is actually a programmed surprise - sort of (in the same way as natural evolutionary development works in nature) controlled coincidence. The lighting object is not only to fulfill the function of a lamp, three-dimensional work of art, but also act as a source of energy, imagination. We would like, for it to be perceived as a part of efforts in searching light - enlightenment in the spiritual meaning.
